5 Things to do to get your home ready for the spring market

Here are my five things to do to get your home ready for the spring market. If you are wondering what you can be doing to get ready for the spring market, this list will help occupy your time until both the weather and the market warm up.

If you’re thinking of putting your house on the market in 2022, here’s five ideas to pay attention to, or five things that I think get you a great return for your money.

Paint

First is a fresh coat of paint, especially if you’ve got a dated color pattern or color palette. Obviously, I’m not an art major, so don’t ask me to pick paint colors. But if you can get two of the more current grays or these new lighter greens that we’re seeing, then this will help show your house as much more updated. Paint is the best bang for your buck, makes your house look much cleaner and newer.

Floors

Get the floors refinished, that goes a long way to making a house really look top shelf.  This one’s a pain in the neck, but if you can stomach the process, it offers a great return on your investment. New floors simply make a home look so much cleaner and current (versus very dated)

And then the next two are the D’s. And without the connotation, this same letter has on a report card.

ClutterDeclutter

Declutter your house. People have stuff.  Some of the stuff is really personal. Experience has taught me that no one really cares that your kid was a high school lacrosse star in 1984. It’s probably time to put those trophies and those photos away, and just thin the house out. Try to remove all of those items that are personal to you.

Depersonalize

And then with decluttering comes depersonalize your home.  Not to go back to the high school lacrosse pictures mentioned above, but get the wedding pictures put away, get the baby pictures away.  The goal is to really just kind of make the house look generic. Make it look like it’s on HGTV and not like the way we all actually live.

Yardwork

The last of the 5 things to do to get your home ready for the spring market is to spend some time in the yard. A little bit of fresh mulch, even in the dead of winter, can make a house look a little bit nicer. Flowers by the door. There are a couple of little things you can really do just to make a house look warm and inviting so as people get out on the car and that first impression shows that the home has been the beneficiary of a home that’s got some TLC and some love. Fresh paint around the door also is great. You can’t have enough fresh paint, actually.

Anyway, but those are my five things to do to get your home ready for the spring market. Be outside, declutter, depersonalize, sand the floors and do the painting. These are the top five things you can do to get your house ready for the market.
